Good hip mobility is key for building functional strength and reducing the risk of injury to the low back and knees. However, most people waste their time trying to stretch individual muscles or mobilize individual joints. Because our body is integrated, it is important to use exercises that reflect the key evidence based concepts of mobility.

You started the chop from the opposite side with the sandbag, right to left, than with the dumbbell, left to right. Apples and oranges, no?
Lifts/chops can be performed on either side. The point is how the tools can impact the outcome and how we should use tools in ways to enhance the diagonal patterns not create potentially compensatory patterns.
